Lisa Rainsong

assisted by Wendy Partridge

Lisa Rainsong holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in Composition from the Cleveland Institute of Music and also earned a Naturalist Certificate from the Cleveland Museum of Natural History. She recently retired from her 22-year position as a member of CIM’s music theory faculty and coordinator of CIM's DMA program, allowing her to dedicate all her teaching to the music of natural history. She now teaches classes and presents programs throughout the state on birdsong, insect songs, and the songs of frogs and toads. She does field research on crickets and katydids – research work that is done primarily by ear - and all her classes include her own field recordings and photos.

Her stories from the field can be found on her blog: Listening in Nature

Wendy Partridge is a letterpress printer and book artist. She prints at Zygote Press, a community print shop in Cleveland, where she helped set up the letterpress studio. She has a graduate degree in art conservation from the Institute of Fine Arts, New York University and works as a painting conservator at the Intermuseum Conservation Association in Cleveland, Ohio.

Wendy grew up hiking and camping with her family in the San Francisco Bay Area. When she moved to Ohio in 2001, she wanted to learn about the natural history of the state. Fortunately, she met Lisa Rainsong, and the two of them have explored the region and shared many outdoor adventures together. She regularly co-leads singing insect hikes with Lisa.
