Friday
10:00 am. Welcome & Orientation, followed by an introductory presentation on The Natural History of Ferns.
12:30 - Lunch at the manor house
Friday Afternoon: Studying the Fern Generalists of Gladys Riley Preserve & Simon Woods. The rocky slopes of Gladys Riley and Simon Woods are carpeted with large colonies ferns, providing a perfect location to repetitively learn a fairly small number of ferns that will provide a strong foundation for species we will be adding in the days that follow.
Dinner on your own
8:00 - 9:00 pm: Review. Reviewing the fern generalists learned earlier in the day.
Saturday
8:00 am Breakfast at the Manor House - Eat and pack lunches for the day
9:00 am - 3:00 pm: Field Trip to Ohio Hanging Rock Preserve - Anchoring New and Familiar Ferns. We will further explore the generalist ferns in this unusually lush fern environment in northeast Scioto County. We will be covering 3.5 miles of trail throughout the day, but for the most part, we will be walking slowly. Driving time is 40 minutes each way, and participants are encouraged to car-share. We will spend the entire day exploring this fern-filled destination. Lunch will be eaten on the trail.

8:00 - 9:00 pm: Review. Reviewing the fern generalists learned on Friday and Saturday.
Sunday
8:00 am: Breakfast at the Manor House - Eat breakfast and pick up​ a light lunch of fruit and snacks..
9:00 am (departure time) - 1:00 pm: Studying the Karst Country Specialist Ferns at Quiverheart Preserve. From the Manor House, Quiverheart Preserve is roughly a 40-minute drive to northern Adams County. Quiverheart is a remarkably deep and beautiful dolomite gorge with many signature plants that have adapted to a cool, moist, high-alkaline environment. We will be covering roughly 3.25 miles of trails. Our program will end at Quiverheart and registrants can make their way home from this location.
