Beechcliff is a historic turn-of-the-century hunting lodge that has been converted into an Arc overnight nature retreat center, ideal for groups. Built in 1912, it served three generations of the Waddell family before being generously donated to the Sanctuary. Lovingly remodeled to modern standards, Beechcliff retains the nostalgic ambiance of the early 1900s, featuring gleaming wooden floors, antique Shaker furniture, and original wooden trim crafted from the now-extinct American chestnut tree. Stepping inside is like stepping back to a quieter, more genteel era.
The lodge has five bedrooms on the main floor, each with two single beds and a sink vanity. Downstairs is a fully equipped kitchen with a 3-compartment dishwashing sink, a large dining room and a spacious screened porch overlooking Rocky Fork Creek, perfect for outdoor gatherings or meals, The lodge’s bathrooms are dormitory-style and shared: two walk-in shower stalls and two eco-friendly, waterless, odorless, chemical-free composting toilet stalls are available in a shared hallway bathroom.
Beechcliff is an excellent choice for groups, retreats, and workshops, offering a combination of historic charm and modern comfort.
