Cave House

Cave House is a 1920s cabin that once served as the manager’s house for the historic cave park known as 7 Caves. Before it became part of the Highlands Nature Sanctuary, this beloved children-oriented tourist destination operated for 70 years on Cave Road until closing its doors in 2005. The cabin is tucked into a rocky hillside along Cave Road near the Rocky Fork Gorge. Cave House is decorated with original 7 Caves memorabilia and antiques.

During the day, the parking lot and museum area are shared with preserve visitors. After 4:00 pm, when the complex closes to the public and entrance gates are secured, the area becomes a private space for overnight guests. Guests are asked to keep the gate closed and locked when entering or exiting outside of museum business hours to help ensure safety and privacy when staff are not on duty. The Appalachian Forest Museum is open daily from 9:30 am to 4:00 pm, and the main entrance gate remains open during those hours.

Cave House sleeps up to five guests and includes three bedrooms: one with a queen-size bed, one with a full-size bed, and one with a twin bed. The cabin also features a full kitchen and one bathroom. The large kitchen and dining area is lined with two walls of windows, offering panoramic views of scenic Cave Road. Please note that the fireplace is decorative only and does not function.
