Leatherwood Cabin is a small historic bungalow located on Cave Road in the heart of the Highlands Nature Sanctuary. The cabin is perched on a forty-foot bluff overlooking Rocky Fork Creek. It is closer to the road than many of our other lodges and sits within a small rural community of summer homes and residences. As a result, typical residential sounds—such as barking dogs or lawnmowers—may occasionally be heard.

A spacious deck wraps around the cabin, offering Adirondack chair seating and views of the Rocky Fork as it flows below. Parking is located above the cabin, with a staircase leading down to the entrance.

Leatherwood Cabin includes two bedrooms: a primary bedroom with a queen-size bed and a glass door opening onto the deck, and a second bedroom with a double bed. The cabin also features a full kitchen and one bathroom. The living room showcases the warmth and patina of aged wood paneling, along with comfortable upholstered furnishings. Please note that the fireplace is decorative only and does not function.

The cabin is located approximately a half-mile walk from the Appalachian Forest Museum, where three hiking trails are available to the public from March through November during museum hours (9:30 am–4:00 pm).
